Private singing tuition
Clare Rachel Greener is a singing teacher based in York, who gives individual tuition at her studio. She has pupils from across Yorkshire, including Leeds, Selby, Bridlington and Durham. Rachel is classically trained, and uses this as the basis for teaching students the essence of vocal technique. This then allows pupils to sing a wide range of repertoire that suits them, as each pupil has their own interests and preferred styles of music. She teaches all ages and abilities, so whether you want your child to learn to sing, or you wish to take up singing during retirement, it is never too late to improve your voice.
Lessons are normally taken weekly or fortnightly according to the wishes of the pupils, and are usually an hour or half-hour in duration, although 45 minute lessons are also available upon request. Lessons cost £23.00 (60 mins) or £12.50 (30 mins), and discounts are available if you wish to pay for 5 or 10 lessons in advance. Lessons are available Monday-Saturday, at a time to suit you.
Exams
Rachel enters pupils for exams in all styles, three times a year, and has a 100% pass rate. Taking music exams is a great way to build confidence at all ages, and serves as an aid to learning and progression. However, these remain entirely optional.
Classical Singing and Music Theory exams are taken with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), and are regarded as the gold standard in classical music exams. These take place in York, although candidates can be entered in examination centres closer to them (for example, Scarborough, Harrogate or Hull).
Exams in Musical Theatre and Popular Music Vocals are offered through the London College of Music (LCM), and are held in Pocklington.
Rachel is currently on maternity leave and is therefore not teaching at the moment. She plans to resume in January 2014, please contact her to receive further updates.
Peripatetic teaching in schools
Rachel has been teaching singing at Sheriff Hutton Primary School since 2008, which has proved hugely beneficial to the children and the school. She has also taught at Wetherby High School since September 2012. Peripatetic teaching enables children to take singing lessons in the convenience of their own school, during school hours. This can be done at no cost to the school, as tuition is arranged directly with parents or guardians. If you feel that your school would be receptive to this idea, please do not hesitate to contact me, and I can enquire whether this would be possible.
